Kent butchers battle for top prize
Three Kent butchers are vying for the county’s top food and drink award.
The Butcher of Brogdale in Faversham, Godmersham Game in Canterbury, and J C Rook & Sons in Ramsgate have been short-listed for Butcher/Meat Producer of the Year in the Taste of Kent Awards, which rewards the county’s most outstanding food and drink businesses and products.
The three firms face a wait while a panel of judges and mystery shoppers select the ultimate winner which will be revealed at a dinner and awards ceremony at Leeds Castle, near Maidstone at the end of February.
More than 680 food and drink businesses and products in the county were nominated by the public, who then voted online for their favourite shops and producers.
Julie Monkman, manager of Produced in Kent, said there had been an 89% increase on last year’s voting: “With such a dramatic rise in votes, Kent’s consumers have demonstrated that outstanding local food and drink quality is what really counts when they are shopping or dining out.”
