App eases orders

Butchers will be able to stock up on all their sundries on the move, thanks to the launch of a new iPhone app by supplier Scobies Direct.

The application, which operates on any smartphone, allows butchers to order their products from anywhere, without the need for a computer or internet connection according to the company, which is part of Glasgow-based Scobie & Junor.

Tom Lawn, supply chain director, said the new app extends the online ordering concept of Scobies Direct: "With the web, they were able to order their products at any time, and now, with the launch of our app, they can order from anywhere as well. The butcher doesn't have to be in his office or sat at the computer at home."

The app has only been available for a few weeks, but Lawn said butchers were already taking it on and giving the company some positive feedback about it. Lawn added that the application also opens up new communication channels with butchers, and allows Scobie to notify their customers of special offers and deals as they happen.

To encourage butchers to use the app, the company is offering 25 iTune vouchers for all orders of any value placed by iPhone until the end of May 2010.
