Foyle Food Group saves 62 jobs after Unite talks
Foyle Meats is saving 62 jobs despite initial fears that 85 positions would be lost from the closure of its lamb processing facility in Londonderry.
Parent company Foyle Food Group originally announced in June that 85 employees would lose their jobs due to the closure of its slaughter and processing plant at Campsie.
However, working with union Unite, the company has managed to secure positions for a significant number of these employees “at risk” to other sites within the Foyle Food Group.
It is confirmed that nine people have been given compulsory redundancies and 14 have taken voluntary redundancies at its abattoir at Campsie, Londonderry.
A Foyle Food spokesperson added: “The decision to close the lamb processing facility has not affected the company’s beef or pig processing lines nor any of its other sites in Northern Ireland or Donegal.”
The company has blamed the closure of the Campsie site due to a decrease in the number of lambs available for slaughter as well as a fall in Irish lambs available for import.
