French success for Ginger Pig

Butcher Tim Wilson was celebrating after becoming one of the first English entrants in an exclusive French culinary directory - thanks to the quality of his beef.

Tim’s matured beef sold at The Ginger Pig shops in London received a Coq d’Or in the Guide des Gourmands at a ceremony held in Paris this month.

He was invited to accept the award by French food journalist Elisabeth de Meurville, who established the guide several years ago, where he presented a 15kg fore-rib which was tasted by the assembled guests.

Elisabeth is a loyal member of the Rosbifs Club, an organisation for French food journalists supported by Eblex to showcase quality beef and lamb.

Le Guide des Gourmand is a food guide which gathers information on high quality products, usually coming from independent stores. It is very well-known in France and few foreign products are included in the list.

There are only 14 Coqs d’Or presented each year for the guide, supported by well-known chef Joêl Robuchon.
