Meryl Ward wins David Black Award
The work of the co-founder of the British Pig Industry Support Group has been recognised at the 50th David Black Awards on 27 October.
Meryl Ward, who runs a pig production and arable farming business in Lincolnshire, was handed the award at a lunch held in London with farming minister Jim Paice and Bpex chairman Stewart Houston in attendance. Ward, a Bpex board member, is currently a governor of Harper Adams University College and sits on the Farm Animal Welfare Council.
The judges' citation said: "Meryl has been an inspiration and encouragement, particularly for young people entering the industry, through her work in establishing Agriskills, which has become a national training and development scheme for pig farming."
