Deadline extended for second M&PP Awards

30 November, 2010

The hunt for the UK's best processing business is hotting up, with entries coming in thick and fast and new sponsors backing the awards. Due to popular demand, MTJ has now decided to extend the entry deadline to 10 December for the Meat & Poultry Processing Awards to give even more opportunity for companies in the sector to get some recognition.

The awards, organised by MTJ, are now entering their second year and aim to build on the resounding success of last year's event.

The event is attracting strong support from the industry, with leading machinery supplier Reiser the latest to back it.

Ken Mossford, md of Reiser UK, said: "Reiser UK are very happy to support the Meat and Poultry Processing Awards which recognises the efforts and achievements of people and companies in our industry at the awards dinner."

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: "We're seeing some really strong levels of entry into the awards this year, and it’s great to get new sponsors like Reiser on board. We want to encourage as many competitors into the awards as possible, which is why we're giving the sector even more time to pull their entries together. The processing sector is often overlooked when it comes to serious awards, so we're looking to rectify that.

"If you're doing something that makes your company stand out from the crowd, then get your entry in. Many of last year's winners and finalists found tangible benefits from entering, and the opportunity is there for all."

Winner of last year's Export Initiative of the Year, Stuart Dobson, MD of Elmgrove Foods, said: "Entering the awards proved a huge success for our business and allowed us to directly connect with firms we'd previously had difficulty getting through to. Winning the award meant we were able to pick up new business, which was fantastic."

The awards are supported by the BMPA, AIMS, the SAMW, the BPC and the PTF. Sponsors include Bizerba, Eblex and the Meat Training Council.
