German state halts meat sales

A group of German farms have halted shipments of poultry and pork after tests found excessive amounts of cancer-causing dioxin in products and animal feed.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Consumer Protection barred farms in the region of Soest, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most populous state, from selling goods after 120,000 contaminated eggs were shipped to market in the past four weeks.

North Rhine-Westphalia may order eggs and meat to be pulled from shelves if tests completed this week confirm the presence of dioxin.
