US beef exports surge 32%

The US exported $4.08bn(£2.54bn) worth of beef in 2010, topping a record set in 2003, it has been revealed.

The Cattlemen's Beef Promotion and Research Board said it jumped 32% from 2009, when the economic downturn cut demand.

It was the biggest increase in exports since an outbreak of BSE in 2004 – when values plunged by 79% from the year before when South Korea and Japan blocked imports.
