Roll up for meat fair
There is still time for visitors to register for the Butchers’ Fair Spring event, which takes place next month. Butchers from across the UK will be able to pick up the latest information on products, trends and innovations, and also take part in competitions.
The event, organised by Meat Trades Journal, takes place on Sunday, 10 April at Newbury Racecourse, Berkshire, with a later event, Butchers’ Fair Autumn taking place on Sunday, 2 October, at the Bolton Arena, Bolton, Lancashire.
The events have the backing of the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders (NFMFT), the Q Guild and the National Association of Catering Butchers and are also supported by two of the biggest companies in the ingredients field. Experts from MRC and Verstegen will be on hand to tell butchers how they can add value to their products by creating dishes to serve alongside the usual cuts. They will also be demonstrating how to use a variety of sauces, glazes, rubs and marinades.
And as well as the displays, exhibitors and demonstrations, there will also be a competitive element where butchers will face off against bakers in a variety of contests. These include the search for the best 454g hot crust pork pie, two cold-eating individual meat pasties (shortcrust pastry), and two six-inch sausage rolls (puff pastry), which are being run in partnership by the NFMFT and the National Association of Master Bakers.
Actress and former model Linda Lusardi will be handing out trophies for the Butchers vs Bakers event, as well as the awards from the competition organised by the NFMFT.
