Alistair McGowan to entertain at SuperMeat

Celebrity mimic Alistair McGowan will be heading up the fun at this year’s SuperMeat & Fish Awards.

The well-known comedian and impressionist will be handing out the gongs and entertaining the audience during this year’s event, which takes place on 7 July at the Park Lane Hilton, London.

This year’s competition will see seven of the UK’s leading retailers competing across a number of categories, covering stores and products. They include Asda, Budgens, The Co-operative Food, Lidl, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Judging is currently under way and with entries significantly up on last year, the judges will be working hard.

Ed Bedington, editor of MTJ, said: “We’re really looking forward to the event and I think Alistair will be great fun for the awards. It should be a cracking night.”

This year sees the return of our new category from last year, Best Packaging, along with a host of other categories, including Best Value Product and Most Sustainable. MTJ will also be running the popular Meat Personality of the Year competition, and nominations are now closed. MTJ will be announcing the four finalists up for the vote in the next edition and voting will open on

SuperMeat is also pleased to welcome another sponsor to the event, the Livestock and Meat Commission of Northern Ireland (LMC). Naomi Waite, LMC marketing director, said: “LMC are pleased to be able to support this year’s SuperMeat Awards. We work closely with retailers to engage with consumers through sampling Northern Ireland Farm Quality Assured beef and lamb and providing recipe ideas and point-of-sale materials. We hope the SuperMeat Awards will encourage retailers to continue to develop the overall quality of their red meat offering and their excellent counter displays in stores throughout Northern Ireland.”

LMC is joining other sponsors Bpex, Eblex, HCC – Meat Promotion Wales, Verstegen Spices & Sauces and the Vion Food Group.
