Video: Scottish Meat Fair
It is one of the biggest events of the Scottish meat calendar and Meat Trades Journal was there last weekend to see the traders and competition entrants in action.
Here Douglas Scott, chief executive of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association (SFMTA) explains why the event is so important.
Butcher J&A Waters of Selkirk scooped the award for the best haggis, Tom Courts Quality Meats of Cowdenbeath won the award for the best pork sausage and JC Douglas of Perth took home the best beefburger prize. The Scotch Butchers Club Meat Skills Championship was also held with Gary Raeburn of Forbes Raeburn and Sons in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, winning the Scottish Butcher of the Year title, and Murray Jamieson of Bruce Brymer Butchers in Brechin named as the Young Scottish Butcher of the Year.
