While we recognize this, we ask our partners in the supply chain to ensure that the difficult periods do not undermine the confidence among beef producers.
Farmers still need clear signals to provide them with the confidence to remain in beef production. The NFU supports the move to contractual arrangements that provide farmers with a fair return on their investment.
Clearly it will be up to individual farmers to assess the detail of the organic contracts to ensure that the conditions fit with their own business structure and arrangements.
If we are to exploit the market fully, we need to find a way to work with the supply chain. To do nothing is not an option. By developing greater trust and closer relationships within the supply chain I am convinced that we can add value to our products and improve the competitiveness of British beef and lamb.
