Butchery team celebrates hat-trick

The Lincolnshire Co-operative butchery team is celebrating after winning three gold awards at the annual Robin Hood Championship, which was held at the Newark and Nottinghamshire County Show.

The team won golds for its pork sausages, its butcher’s choice Lincolnshire sausages, and also for its pork and leek sausages in the speciality sausage category.

Head of butchery Dave Chown said: “We’re delighted to have achieved three gold awards in the Robin Hood Championship, particularly in Lincolnshire Co-operative’s 150th year.

“Soon after the Society started out, adverts appeared promoting butchery and the use of British meat. We still have the same values today so we’re pleased that the quality products we make are being recognised.” 

Using meat sourced through the Lincolnshire quality beef, lamb and pork scheme for the majority of its products, the butchery team works with local farmers and Boston-based abattoir A Wright and Sons to make Lincolnshire meat more widely available to customers.

The annual sausage competition is organised by the Nottinghamshire Council of Retail Meat Traders and is open to all independent butchers.
