Eblex hosts international visit
More than 60 beef buyers and meat industry journalists from 14 different countries visited England this week on the invite Eblex.
It is the largest inward mission ever hosted by the levy board as they showed visitors the whole beef supply chain, including farm visits, processing plant tours and an industry exhibition.
The event, which included delegates from across the European Union, featured beef tasting and a Celebration of Beef dinner on Monday night at Wroxall Abbey, Warwickshire, with leading members of the industry and guests from key stakeholder organisations.
Jean-Pierre Garnier, Eblex’s head of export services, said: “This was a chance for us to showcase the quality of our production and processing, our efficient supply chain and the progressive practices used by some of our farmers. But above all, it allowed us to demonstrate the factors that make matured, grass-fed beef such a fantastic eating experience.
“From a standing start of zero in May 2006, beef exports last year topped £321 million and 100,000 tonnes. We expect this to grow by a further 30 per cent this year and we have committed to seeing exports account for 20 per cent of production next year.
“Once again we are players on the global market. This three-day visit was all about showing importers how we produce a quality product and helping to stimulate more trade.”
