Co-op suspends NOW advertising
The Co-operative Group has suspended advertising in the News of the World in the wake of the phone hacking scandal.
It has joined the likes of Halifax, Ford and Virgin in boycotting the Sunday tabloid until an investigation into the claims is completed.
In a statement, The Co-op said: “The group is a consumer-owned business, which adheres to strong ethical standards. These allegations have been met with revulsion by the vast majority of members who have contacted us.
“We would urge everyone involved to bring this matter to a speedy conclusion for the sake of all those who are affected by these events.”
Earlier this week, it was reported that the newspaper has hacked into the phone of murder victim Milly Dowler and deleted voice messages left to her by relatives when she had been missing.
