Fairfax Meadow switches to British pork
The UK’s largest specialist catering butcher Fairfax Meadows has switched the vast majority of its fresh pork supply to 100% British outdoor reared pork.
The company is a major supplier of fresh, cooked and processed meats for customers, such as outside caterers for festivals, schools, nursing homes, fine dining restaurants, hotels and pubs.
Working in partnership with Cranswick, Fairfax Meadows has been working closely with Bpex to effect the change to British pork.
Paul Willington, purchasing director at Fairfax Meadows, said: “It’s a huge step for us. We’ve moved all our manufactured meat over – including all our sausage – across all our foodservice across the country.
“There is now only one small value line left, which uses pork of variable European origin, to the customer specification.”
The announcement comes as a welcome support of the British pig industry, which has been struggling against rising feed prices and fighting for an increase in the price paid for pigmeat by the large retailers. Many in the industry have warned that unless the average DAPP rises quickly, British pig farmers may be forced out of production.
