Top sausage awards launched
Top sausage suppliers are being given the opportunity to shine on the national stage with the launch of the annual Bpex Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year Competition.
Catering butchers and sausage manufacturers across the UK are in with a chance of taking home a top title when the winners are announced prior to British Sausage Week 2011 (31 October – 06 November).
Bpex is now calling on producers who supply the catering sector to enter across five different categories:
• Traditional Pork Sausage
• Speciality Pork Sausage
• Best Pub Pork Sausage
• Best Innovative Pork Sausage
• Legendary British Banger
The fifth category, which is being supported by MTJ, is all new for 2011. BPEX foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger said: “We have introduced a category that reflects the theme of British Sausage Week, which this year is the search for the ‘legendary banger’. This is the sausage that means the most to your business; be it a long-standing or historic recipe or a banger that generates the biggest sales volume or customer feedback.
“The other categories, which remain hugely popular with catering butchers, sausage manufacturers and chefs, remain unchanged and will recognise and reward quality sausage varieties – both traditional and new – in the foodservice sector.”
The closing date for paper entries is Thursday 8 September 2011, after which samples will be required for formal judging.
Three finalists from each category will then be put forward to take part in a grand final at Butchers’ Hall, London on 21 October, where each of the sausages will be taste-tested once more before the overall winner is announced.
