Bike riders plan support for charity
Published:  27 July, 2011

A team of elite-ish athletes from the meat industry are set to embark on a major BDCI fundraising and awareness drive across the UK on two wheels later this month.

‘Four Men, Four Nations, One Great Cause’ is the name that has been given to the 2011 BDCI Cycle Challenge, which will see the NFU’s John Mercer, ABP’s Stuart Roberts, Dawn Cardington’s Mark Allan and Eoin Ryan of AIBP take to the road. Setting off in Shrewsbury on Monday 15 August, the four riders will cycle through England, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, finishing up in Edinburgh, Scotland the following Monday.

In addition to securing sponsorship and raising funds for the charity, a key objective will be to generate awareness of the work of the charity to potential beneficiaries en route, so the ride will take in a number of meat plants along the way in order to do so.

The BDCI has contacted a number of companies to invite them to sponsor 50-mile sections of the ride. A full list of sponsors will be announced at a later date.

A blog has been set up to cover both the pre-ride build-up and events on the road. To stay up to date on the latest events, visit www.bdcimeninlycra.wordpress.com.
