With more than 4,000 votes cast, David Lishman, of Lishman’s of Ilkley, was proud to reveal the new Yorkshire Sausage at a glamorous ceremony at Ilkley town hall this week.
“It’s a good, all-round pork sausage,” David told MTJ prior to the launch. “The people of Yorkshire seem to be quite conservative in their tastes, but it’s the kind of sausage which is perfect for breakfast, bangers and mash or toad in the hole.”
The new variety is made up of Yorkshire pork and is seasoned with white pepper, mace, nutmeg, ground coriander and parsley, and the seasoning mix is now being prepared by local ingredients supplier Gordon Rhodes, for supply to butchers, farmers and sausage-makers across the UK, David added.
The campaign to decide the county’s official sausage got under way in April in conjunction with Welcome to Yorkshire, and saw David travel the length and breadth of the county, giving people the chance to taste and vote on the six contenders for the title.
David hopes the new sausage will give Yorkshire “something to shout about”.
