Eblex publishes cost-saving guide for small abattoirs and processors
Eblex has published a new guide to help small abattoirs and processors reduce costs and increase revenue.
‘Adding Value and Managing Costs in Small Abattoirs and Meat Processors’ is designed to help plants carry out a basic self-assessment in order to identify cost-saving opportunities and potential revenue streams.
The guide looks at how businesses can turn residual material, such as offal, blood and fats, into new revenue streams, reducing disposal costs and increasing profitability. It also examines how to get the best out of staff and includes a blank skill matrix to help processors assess staff skill levels.
It recommends that processors take environmental issues into consideration when evaluating costs and suggests implementing simple steps, such as turning off taps and hoses when not in use and fixing leaks, to reduce unecessary waste
