Noddy Holder sets off on tour of legendary bangers
Former Slade lead singer Noddy Holder has started a tour of England to find the country’s best sausages, as part of Bpex’s British Sausage Week. He started at the Lanesborough hotel in London on Monday, rewarding the best sausage makers in London and the south east.
Anton Takacs, who accepted the London award for Byron Butchers, said: “We’re so pleased. We were a finalist last year, so to go one step further and take the title of ‘London’s Legendary Banger’ is fantastic. The sausage is one of our more popular varieties, being a variation of the traditional Cumberland, but with added herbs and flavour.”
In the south east, Denshams Butchers, based in Witney, Oxfordshire, won the ‘Legendary Banger’ award for its ‘Green Goblin Cider Sausage’. Manager Clinton Rudd said: “We never expected to win. The cider sausage works so well. The subtle hint of apple comes through and combines perfectly with our locally sourced pork, itself reared on hops from the local brewery.”
On presenting the awards in London, Noddy Holder said: “The standard of entries was incredibly high, with many sausages worthy of the legendary title. The sausages here today stood out as something genuinely different. They very much deserve their prize and place in the British Sausage Week Hall of Fame.”
For the 14th edition of the British Sausage Week many butchers are offering special promotions and tasting sessions. Anton added that it was a great opportunity to promote his products differently and engage with customers.
