Under Scrutiny: Foston furore
The controversy surrounding Midland Pig Producers’ (MPP) proposal for a pig farm at Foston in Derbyshire which would house 2,500 sows and 20,000 piglets has generated huge amounts of press coverage and polarised popular opinion.
The campaign, which has drawn in celebrities, animal welfare groups, local residents and even the doughty women of the WI, continues to ripple further afield, with some saying it is beginning to turn public opinion against all livestock planning projects, both large and small.
