Butcher launches Jubilee sausage comp

A Gosforth butcher is celebrating its 25th anniversary by challenging customers to make a signature sausage fit for a queen.

George Payne Butchers, in Brunton Park, will have been in business for a quarter of a century in June, when the Queen will be celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. He is therefore encouraging customers to come up with a brand new sausage recipe, with the winning sausage produced and sold in shop, and a pack sent to the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

The winner will also take home n 10lbs of their own sausages, a bottle of Champagne and a £50 George Payne meat voucher.
 
George said: “Like our landmark 25th anniversary, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is one of the highlights of the year and we wanted to combine them and do something different by inviting people – adults and children alike – to cook up a sausage recipe fit for the sovereign.”

To enter the competition, customers will have to come up with a brand new sausage flavour they think is fit for royalty and explain why they have chosen it. Written entries can be submitted to the shop or emailed to georgepayne@sky.com by Monday, May 21.

“The sky’s the limit as far as we are concerned and we welcome entries from younger generations, individually or perhaps as part of a school project, as one of our philosophies is to educate children and young people about the importance of eating healthy, sustainable locally produced food,” said George.

George Payne Butchers will also be selling beef topside at 1987 prices and have special offers on sausages on its anniversary weekend, which falls on 1 and 2 June.
