HMC is wound up by HMRC
Halal certification group, The Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC), has been shut down after being served with a winding-up order by HM Revenue and Customs.
The organisation said it was forced to take action after facing “cash flow” issues following the failure to pay its VAT bill dating back to 2005, a sum reported to be in six figures. HMC said it was unaware of the requirement to pay VAT, due to its status as a charity.
However, the group said it would continue its work with the Muslim community and has founded HMC UK to continue its audit and certification operations.
