Hunt underway for David Black Award
The hunt is underway for a pig industry star, with the launch of this year’s David Black Award.
The award, sponsored by Bpex, aims to recognise and reward somebody, be they a producer, processor or anyone allied to the sector, who has made an important and sustained contribution to the industry.
Previous winner, Richard Longthorp, now chairman of the National Pig Association, said: “When I won, I was firmly of the opinion there were others out there more deserving than me.
“That must mean there are still plenty of people who perhaps themselves are not aware of just how much they have done for the industry. So it is clearly down to their contemporaries in the industry to recognise what those individuals might not recognise themselves and nominate them.”
Bpex director Mick Sloyan added: “I would encourage everybody in the industry to think about who they would nominate as there are so many excellent candidates out there.”
