NBA appoints interim ops manager
The National Beef Association (NBA) has appointed an interim operations manager to manage the transition of the association to its new constitution while it seeks a new figurehead.
Alison McKnight will be replacing NBA assistant director Joanne Pugh, who left the association for a new position with the National Sheep Association (NSA).
NBA chairman Hamish Bean said: “With a new era for NBA recently announced and our new board in place, we have chosen to take this opportunity to bring in support to allow us to continue our key work and help steer our developments in the short term. This will give us the time and the strategy rightly deserved to recruit a suitable lead figure for the organisation in the coming months. We are delighted that Alison has joined us and we look forward to continuing and increasing our presence over this time.
“The challenges the industry faces at present needs a stable and a proactive NBA which is what the Review Committee recommended and that is exactly what we aim to deliver.”
McKnight, who is based in Scotland and will work four days a week, currently operates as an independent rural consultant. Her previous experience includes time with Smiths Gore Farm Management and FWAG Scotland.
She said: “The opportunity to work with NBA through this development stage is a challenge I am excited to accept. There is much to learn and a great deal to achieve to fulfil the expectations of the board and the members of the association and I look forward to working with all members and staff to ensure the association has a positive future.”
The appointment comes a month after the NBA ratified a new constitution and established a new board, ending months of turmoil and uncertainty. In October 2011, the association’s entire board resigned ahead of the association’s AGM, and a review committee was set up to consider the way forward for the organisation.
