Butchers gear up for Yorkshire contest
Butchers from across the UK will be facing off in Yorkshire next month as the 23rd Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage & Products Competition gets under way.
The event, which takes place on Sunday, 4 November, at Bradford’s Cedar Court Hotel, is one of the UK’s biggest and most prestigious regional meat trades contest, attracting hundreds of entries from butchers, farm shops and bakers across the county.
Organised by the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils, the competition features flagship pork pie and sausage classes.
Steve Martin, of Bentleys Butchers, Pudsey, pork pie supreme champion for the past two years and recipient of the Ted Jones Trophy, will be judging this year’s pie entries.
Entry forms and programmes are being posted to every butcher across Yorkshire by the National Federation of Meat and Food Traders. There is no limit on the number of entries and the closing date for postal entries is Saturday, 27 October.
Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils’ president Andrew Green, of Wilsons Butchers, Crossgates, Leeds, said: “We hope all regular entrants, along with some new faces, will again take up the gauntlet and enter the county’s premier competition for meat men and women. Leading performers, notably major title winners, report major boosts to their trade.”
