Dumfries monitor farm sparks substantial interest

There has been major interest in a new Dumfries monitor farm, which attracted around 150 farmers and industry representatives from across the UK, Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) said.

Dumfries is the first of the 35 farms in the Scotland-wide monitor programme to focus primarily on beef finishing. Also, in another first, two processing companies will play an important part in the monitor farm programme. The two processing companies, Highland Meats and A K Stoddart, will work with the Paterson family (the owner of Dumfries) to look at the production of the cattle and how to find what customers want.

The farm runs to 600 acres with a 260-strong herd of sucklers, consisting mainly of Limousin or Simmental-cross-Limousin cows.
