Waitrose reports positive start to 2013

Upmarket grocery retailer Waitrose has reported a strong performance for the beginning of the new year.

According to the John Lewis-owned supermarket chain, sales grew by 19.7% to £107.49m in the week to 5 January.

The positive news has been attributed to frozen party foods, which increased by 147% on last year, as well as beers, wines and spirits, which were up by 51% on last year.
