Former Vion pork business renamed
The former Vion pork business has been renamed as the Karro Food Group, it was announced.
The company said the name, which is derived from the latin for meat Caro, was aimed at being “short, sharp and clear, and reflective of our desire to be a high quality British pork producer”.
In statement, it said that the Karro management team, working with investors Endless, would focus on building sustainable relationships with suppliers, “first class” production facilities and would be investing in people.
The company said it was already investing in developing its UK facilities and was developing plans to strongly grow its position in fresh pork, bacon & gammon, cooked meats and frozen burgers and sausages in retail, foodservice and food manufacturing sectors.
The former brands of the Vion business would also be retained, Karro said, and further developed. These include Cookstown, McGees, Case & Sons,Malton Bacon Factory, Key Country Foods and Snowbird.
Seamus Carr, managing director, said: “We are truly delighted at the continued support from our suppliers, customers and employees with this development. We are part of a really strong and dynamic business which will allow us to grow and develop the British pork industry.”
