Slaughter guide launched for smallholders
A new online guide to the humane slaughter of poultry has been published by the Humane Slaughter Association (HSA).
The guide, which is now available on the HSA’s website for viewing and downloading, has been developed mainly for smallholders and small-scale producers. According to the HSA, it is a “practical and comprehensive” introduction to the humane slaughter of poultry.
The guide was developed to help poultry-keepers on a worldwide basis to kill sick or injured birds in a humane way or to slaughter them humanely for consumption.
Also included in the guide are a series of photographs and videos highlighting best practice as well as covering all stages of the slaughter process from catching and handling to the use of stunning and slaughter equipment. It is the first in a series of educational resources to be made available online.
