End of the line for Hall’s

The Vion-owned West Lothian meat processing plant known as Hall’s of Broxburn is due to close tomorrow, while production at the site ceased yesterday.

Despite Browns Food Group buying the Hall’s brand at the end of January, the Dutch food group Vion failed to find a buyer for the site, which employed around 1,700 people.

Currently there are 80 workers still on-site, which will then reduce to 50 office and administration staff by the end of this week.

Vion said it was not planning to release a statement on the cessation of production at the site or putting anybody up for further commment, but a spokesperson said: “We regret that it has not been possible to avoid closure of the plant.”
