Simon Howie chef takes top culinary award

Simon Howie Foods’ head chef Malcolm Warham was awarded gold medal at the Scottish Culinary Championships in Glasgow.

The competition involved cooking a three-course French-inspired meal in front of a live audience in an hour and a half.

The judging process was thorough, with judges including Albert Roux, at the competition held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) in Glasgow, run by the Federation of Chefs Scotland.

President of the Scottish Chefs federation Kevin MacGillivray said: "We were delighted with this year’s entries into the competition and working under pressure as these chefs did during ScotHot, is a real test of their focus and commitment to the job."

Warham, who has been with Simon Howie Foods for more than 15 years, commented on his award: "I haven’t competed professionally for a number of years, so I am honoured to win the Gold medal. All entrants were over the age of 40, so I was up against chefs with many years’ professional experience."
