Scottish meat sector heads to Hong Kong

Scottish processors and representatives from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) are heading to Hong Kong to showcase the Scotch Beef and Lamb brands at the largest food and hospitality trade show in Asia-Pacific this week.

The HOFEX trade show will feature around 35,000 buyers including hoteliers, restaurateurs and chief executives. QMS chief executive Uel Morton said: “Hong Kong has been identified by the industry as an important market for  premium high quality Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb. It is also a potential growth market for certain products which are not keenly sought after by the British and European markets.”

Morton added Hong Kong was an important market because of the popularity of bones, tendons and offal, which are commonly known to have lower value in Europe.
