2 Sisters gains OFT nod for Vion poultry business
2 Sisters Food Group will now be able to acquire Vion UK’s poultry business, following a decision made by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
After a full review of the transaction, the OFT has deemed that 2 Sisters’ purchase will not be a competition issue. “The integration of both the red meat business and poultry business can now proceed,” 2 Sisters said.
The move will save thousands of jobs across the firm. “The outcome also ends any uncertainty for our employees, for our customers and for farmers and other suppliers who serve these sites.” However, the business is still not profitable and 2 Sisters will need to develop the red meat business, but said it offered growth potential.
A statement from 2 Sisters said: “The deal is good news for UK consumers, who will now benefit from a secure supply of British meat and continued fierce competition among the supplier base, with both domestic manufacturers and imported chicken from a number of countries across the world.”
