Ex-JLS star launches burger competition
Farmer JB Gill, famous for his time in boyband JLS, has joined Simply Beef and Lamb in its new burger competition entitled ‘Battle of the Burgers’.
The competition will aim to find the best homemade burger in the UK, using quality-assured beef or lamb and is an important initiative after the recent horsemeat scandal, to show consumers how to make their own burgers from scratch.
The finalists, chosen by a panel of burger experts, will attend a live cook-off in London, where one person will receive the ‘Battle of Burgers Champion’ title. The winner will receive a £2,000 cash prize and contestants are encouraged to enter recipes on Facebook, Twitter or through the Simply Beef and Lamb website.
Gill said: “Burgers are a mealtime favourite in homes up and down the UK, but people don’t realise how simple it is to make them from scratch, instead of buying from the shop. Homemade burgers are much tastier and, as you know what’s going into your burger, you definitely have peace of mind.
“It’s great to be involved with Simply Beef and Lamb and, getting into the farming industry myself this year, I’m learning more and more every day about just how important it is to cook with good-quality produce by looking for a quality mark such as Red Tractor. That’s why I’m calling on the public to get creative with their cooking and I’m excited to see and taste some of their unique recipes.”
