Eblex Yearbook reports record prices for beef
Record highs in the beef sector have been identified in Eblex’s Yearbook, with overall average prices up 11% on 2011.
Great British deadweight prices for R4L steers were also up by 26% on 2010 levels, with the average price at 350.3p/kg, “reflecting another year of improved fortunes for the beef sector”, said Eblex.
Similar success, however, was not reflected in the sheep sector, which faced price drops and the effects of severe weather conditions. The UK remained a net exporter of sheepmeat for the second year in a row, while France remained the top sheepmeat exporter.
Head of data at Eblex and AHDB James Pownall said: “The Yearbook acts as a major reference source for beef and sheep farmers, providing as much key information as possible to help them make important business decisions.”
