Selkirk butcher makes ex-Lions player tribute
Selkirk-butchers JA Waters & Sons has created a beef sausage to remember the founder’s son Jack Waters, who was a previous British Lions rugby player.
The sausages, called Jack Waters Specials, have become a huge success and were made as a result of the British Lions Tour, which started in June.
Waters became one of the most loyal servants playing for Selkirk, district team South of Scotland, the British Lions and the Barbarians. In 1936 he toured with the Lions in Argentina and, in 1938, he joined them in South Africa.
Butcher Alan Scott from the shop, established in 1911, said: “We cooked and sampled them for a week and put them on sale and they have been a sensation, with glowing reports. They sold out every day during their first week on sale.”
Earlier this year, JA Waters & Sons was featured on ITV together with Rory Bremner where they demonstrated how to make its Scottish championship haggis.
