Lidl signs up to retail body
Lidl has joined the British Retail Consortium (BRC), following a positive year in the market.
The supermarket, which was founded in Germany in the 1930s and came to the UK in 1994, is a growing brand in the UK market and has recently increased its market share to 3.1%.
UK managing director of Lidl Ronny Gottschlich noted the positive results and said: “Lidl has experienced tremendous growth within the UK retail sector in recent years and we are excited about the opportunities our membership to the BRC will bring. We are looking forward to being able to benefit from the BRC’s campaigning and policy expertise in areas affecting our business.”
Meanwhile director general of the BRC Helen Dickinson said Lidl represented an important and growing part of the UK grocery market. She added that the BRC looked forward to working with the chain.
