Celebrity chef to present Smithfield Awards

Celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli has been announced as the presenter of the Smithfield Awards this year.

The awards have seen almost 400 individual entries from Q Guild butchers across the country in seven categories; sausages, burgers, pies, cooked meats, kitchen-ready and chipolata sausages.

Novelli is a five-out-of-five AA Rosette and Michelin award-winning chef, who also runs cookery school The Novelli Academy.

There will be diamond, gold and silver medals awarded to the best entrants and, this year, product innovation is especially important to make a successful entry.

The awards are contested by Q Guild butchers and chairman Brindon Addy said: “The Smithfield Awards present an opportunity for our members to put their products to the test and win one of the meat industry’s most prized accolades.”

The entries will be judged in Glasgow next week and the awards will be presented at the Butchers’ Hall in Smithfield, London, on 20 November.
