Dawn Meats gains green accolade

UK operator Dawn Meats has won an award that recognises its green credentials.

The Green Apple Environment Award, which is designed to find the greenest companies, councils and communities in the UK, was awarded to Dawn Meats on 15 November.

The company, which was in competition with more than 500 other nominees, was presented with the award at a ceremony in the House of Commons.

It took the accolade for reducing its water intake by 56m litres across four sites; reducing thermal energy between 50% and 80% across multiple sites; and through constructing a seven-acre wetland and eco park.

Dawn Meats chief executive Niall Browne said: “Sustainability delivers for the environment and for our bottom line, as endorsements such as the Green Apple Awards are proving a major calling card with premium customers. Dawn Meats sees sustainability and traceability as key differentiators for consumers and we have set ambitious sustainability targets for delivery by 2020, including a 50% reduction in our carbon footprint and reductions of 40% in water and energy consumption.”
