UK farmers visit Italy

Eblex co-ordinated a group of farmers from south-west England going to Italy to examine the country’s beef and sheep supply chain.

Travelling through northern Italy, the tour visited the Padua region for beef unit finishing Charolais cattle and traditional sheep enterprise using a community grazing system.

The trip included nine representatives of the NFU South West livestock board, including Eblex board member and the group’s chairman Andy Foot, and national board representative Ed Green.

Foot said: “The trip gave us an insight into Italian beef and sheep production systems, as well as helping us find out more about the promotion, branding and marketing of high-quality English products sold on the European market.”

Additionally, the group visited a large supermarket, stocking Quality Standard Mark (QSM) lamb from England, and met with the head of the department to learn more about the store’s operation and reason for choosing QSM products.

“We clearly saw that there is a high level of demand among Italian consumers for quality-assured products, such as QSM lamb,” Foot added.
