Welsh processing

company Peter's Food Service has recently taken delivery of a new energy-efficient cooling system from

Star Refrigeration.

Peter's manufactures a range of chilled pies in foil - including minced beef, steak and kidney, and chicken and mushroom - as well as Cornish pasties, cheese and onion pasties and corned beef pasties.

Peter's required two spiral chillers and the associated refrigeration plant for its Gwent facility, in order to increase capacity. Star designed and installed a separate refrigeration system for each of the two new Helix Spiral chillers. The previous system operated on the gas refrigerant R22, which is being phased out. The new plant uses R404a, a modern refrigerant.

The refrigeration plant features duplex screw compressors,

low-pressure receiver units

and remote evaporative condensors. A reverse-cycle facility ensures a fast and

efficient defrosting process and

is also energy-efficient.
