HAULAGE FIRM ADDS THERMO FLEET

A haulage company that transports meat across the globe has added to its distribution fleet with the latest in trailer refrigeration technology to improve service. Scottish firm A Kerr & Co Haulage has now added Thermo King's SLX 400 range to its fleet, which already comprises eight units, and plans to refurbish all of its vehicles in the next few years. Managing director Mikey Kerr said: "As the company hauls a considerable amount of hanging meat around the globe, it's imperative that the meat is delivered in prime condition. For this reason, we need reliable, efficient refrigeration units and the SLX-400's load protection system ensures that deliveries are kept at the correct temperature."

FUEL SAVING SOLUTIONS FROM GEA NIRO

Spray-drying specialist GEA Niro, reckons it has some nifty solutions to save money on fuel, whereby a meat processor could save up to 25% on heating bills by applying good heat recovery practices.

The Niro heat recovery system claims to reuse more of the heat generated within a plant, which would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere. For example, hot condensate from the evaporator could be cooled in the pre-heater of the spray dryer. At the heart of the heat recovery system is a new type of heat exchanger, with a unique plate profile designed to reduce bacterial build-up and to aid cleaning of the system.

Once the parameters have been established, Niro claimed, it can design and manage a project with minimal disruption, right through to installation and testing.
