Drivers rules relaxed as bluetongue grip strengthens

The government has now confirmed 24 cases of bluetongue disease, all within the existing control zone in East Anglia.

The Department for Transport has also announced that rules restricting lorry drivers hours are to be relaxed to reduce the backlog of animals awaiting transportation to market. Drivers' allowed hours will increase from nine to 10 in areas of low risk.

From 4 October, animals will be free to go to market, providing the outbreak situation doesn't change.
