Finalists named in SuperMeat
More than 100 of the top supermarket meat, poultry and fish products have been whittled down to just 32 for the final of this years SuperMeat and Fish Awards.
A team of judges, under the adjudication of former MTJ editor Fred A'Court, spent a week comprehensively evaluating every product against a judging criteria that included taste, texture, smell, value for money, nutritional content, packaging and information that buyers and cooks would find useful.
The 11 categories include three new to the Journal-organised competition this year - healthy, organic and product new to market. "We've cooked and tasted every single product that's been entered, and we've found our winning products by cooking and tasting all the ones that have made the final again," said A'Court.
"Probably the most impressive aspect of this year's competition has been the consistent tenderness and eating quality of all the meat products entered. It's a real tribute to the hard work put in by product development teams and processors."
Chefs, butchers, and ladies from the Women's Institute carried out the judging.
The final, where the best products and the best stores will be named, will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London on Tuesday, 19 June, before an audience of supermarket headquarters and store staff, product developers, processors, and industry VIPs.
