Simon Howie wins two awards

Scottish butcher Simon Howie Foods has enjoyed double award success over the past week with two independent industry awards.

Firstly, Malcolm Warham, product development chef at Simon Howie Foods, was presented with 'The Development Chef of the Year Award' at the CIS Excellence Awards ceremony at the Hilton hotel in Glasgow on 10 May. The event recognised the most talented individuals, organisations and charities who have contributed to Scotland's Catering, Hospitality and Tourism Industry.

Malcolm Warham joined Simon Howie Foods in 2001 and made an immediate impact by extending the value added products for both the retail and food service sectors. Simon Howie commented: "Malcolm has over the years successfully developed close working relationships with our customers and the service provided has been recognised by our customers as being invaluable to their business, it is great for his achievements to be recognised through this prestigious award".

The success at Simon Howie was followed at the weekend when Richard Megahy from the Perth retail store, won the Scottish Meat Skills Competition for the unprecedented fifth year in a row. Competition points were awarded in categories for range of products and degree of difficulty, health and safety, hygiene, display and product knowledge. Bruce Fife, who also works in the Simon Howie retail shop, came a very close second.

To celebrate, the Simon Howie retail store in Perth, currently holder of Meat Trades Journal Best Butchers Shop in Britain award, is having an open day on Saturday 26 May. There will be free champagne and canapés served from 11am and a 10% discount on all products bought on that day. Malcolm Warham will also be present to answer any cookery questions.
