Tesco makes a mark with QSM pork
Tesco customers will be able to tell at a glance that they are buying fully-assured, quality pork from the retailer, as the Quality Standard Mark (QSM) for pork now features prominently on the front of pack, rather than on the back or sides, where it was previously positioned.
Seven million Tesco pork packs will be over-stickered with a large QSM logo in a move to demonstrate support for Britain's struggling pig farmers.
BPEX chairman Stewart Houston was delighted with the news. He said: "Tesco is one of the retailers which supports the QSM and it's very good news for British producers, as well as for Tesco shoppers, that the QSM logo will appear prominently on the front of all packs of Tesco's own-label QSM pork, from now until the end of the year.
"The QSM is the consumer's guarantee that pork and pork products carrying the Mark have been produced to the highest standards of animal welfare, production methods and quality control and where all parts of the supply chain are subject to independent audit.
"It's vital that retailers support the QSM and that they have secure supply chain arrangements in place to guarantee future supply of QSM product."
In addition, Tesco customers in the west can pick up a free 'Love Pork' recipe booklet from special dispensers located by the serve-over counters in 30 stores across that region.
