Vaughan is Champion of Champions
The UK's number one sausage has been revealed as Stephen Vaughan's Traditional Pork Sausage at a prestigious championship event this week.
Butchers from across the UK travelled to London's famous Butcher's Hall near Smithfield Market to take part in the ultimate sausage competition - Champion of Champions.
Organised by Meat Trades Journal, Champion of Champions takes award-winning sausages from around the UK and pitches them against each other in a bid to discover the ultimate champion sausage. This year's winner Stephen Vaughan of S A Vaughan in Penyffordd, North Wales triumphed aginst some tough competition from 23 other award-winning butchers.
Stephen was presented with his trophy by Richard Bacon, Conservative MP for South Norfolk, and MTJ editor Ed Bedington.
Judges were Keith Fisher of BPEX, Fred A'Court, former editor of MTJ, Fred Mallion, a past Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers and Michael Bachyk, the winner of last year's Champion of Champions.
Stephen told MTJ: "I am made up with winning the competition. I have been a finalist four times in the past, with a speciality sausage. But this time I decided to enter with the traditional pork sausage, which has proved to be the right decision."
