Price rise at Sainsbury's?
In an effort to boost profit
margins, Sainsbury's appears to be raising prices, according to a
survey by MTJ sister title The Grocer. The survey shows that Sainsbury's prices for 100 grocery products have risen by just short of 4% over the last 12 months.
This contrasts with an increase over the same year of only 0.7% for Tesco, 1.5% for Morrisons and 2.5% for Asda.
Sainsbury's has rejected the findings, stressing that its total grocery price deflation was 1.5% over the last year.
It added that if all of its product ranges are included in the calcu-lation, then its overall prices are still lower.
